When I first considered entering the premium tobacco business, I gave some thought as to what defines a great cigar and realized that a cigar is not only a true handcrafted product but one of the last remaining affordable luxuries available. A single cigar is a work of art, touched by over 100 individual skilled craftsmen as the tobacco goes through an intensive 12 to 18 step process. The entire process of farming, aging, curing and rolling tobacco into premium cigars is completely natural. Being 100% agricultural in nature, the yearly output is dependent on the climate and weather conditions each year. When this cigar reaches the States, the average retail price is somewhere between $8-$12 a piece with even the limited editions and special small-batch blends being in the $15-$25 range. For these nominal costs, you can enjoy luxury, premium tobacco that touches all five senses; the look, the touch, the taste, and the aroma accompanied by great conversations you’ll hear while smoking cigars in a lounge!! Cigars are truly one of the last affordable luxuries that bring people of all backgrounds together.

In our lounges, you will find relaxing atmospheres to enjoy one of these premium tobacco products. Our lounges are adorned with plush leather seats we have gleaned from Facebook Marketplace, sturdy-ish chairs from the FREE section of Cragislist! Flat-screen TVs (some we buy NEW and others are hand -me-downs from gracious customers) with which to enjoy your favorite programming and a welcoming culture can be found within. We carry many of your favorite brands and a few you may not have heard of so stop on by and see the selection. I am around most of the time (true banker’s hours) that I’m not chasing my toddler around, golfing in a scramble (ya boy can hit the long ball) or throwing a fly line!! The joy of being a retail tobacconist for me comes from the customer interaction. Taking a new customer on the journey to becoming a cigar smoker is fulfilling. Guiding them how to cut and light, watching their palates progress, figuring out what new products really suit their needs and further their knowledge of the craft….it’s all an adventure that creates relationships and the camaraderie that we all love!

It all began in the weeks leading up to my 18^th birthday. Having picked out the store I would parlay with, what time of day I would go and where I would be smoking it at…only one decision remained, what would I smoke? As the day grew close, I got desperate and reached out to my stepfather for advice. I asked him the very same question I have been asked 100 times now, what should I smoke? Never one to mince words he responded quickly, “hand-rolled, 100% tobacco and long cut filler…if it isn’t that it isn’t a cigar!” On that special occasion, I.D. in hand, I walked through the door and it all hit me at once. Papa’s shed, warm summer hugs, fresh walnuts from the tree. The smells of summers past in the hills of West Virginia. As I was welcomed into the store and was asked if I needed any help…I responded with what I had been told. With a wry smile, the gentleman led me into the humidor, reached down and brought up the token of my desire. “An 8-5-8 should do,” he said, handing me the cigar. Off I went into the early evening sky to finish what I had started. Ever since that day I have had a steadfast companion for whatever joy or challenges life had in store for me. Changing jobs, renting my first apartment, proposing to my wife or welcoming my daughter into this world. My hand-rolled, 100% tobacco, long cut filled friend has been by my side.

Why I love being a Tobacconist…you meet the greatest people! Cigar smokers come from all walks of life, but when you’re able to connect with people who are also passionate about cigars, you truly forge the most genuine friendships. Being a tobacconist isn’t just about smoking and learning, it’s also about helping others find a first smoke, an everyday smoke or a new favorite!

One of the reasons I love smoking cigars is that it can be a completely relaxing, quiet experience or one that you can share with your circle. Cigars are decadent and everything from the feel of one, to the aroma, to the flavor is something I savor ever single time I smoke.

I love smoking cigars because they’re so much more than just a bunch of rolled-up leaves. They provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. They’re a journey of exploitations of different flavors, aromas and experiences. They represent a rich culture with a proud heritage of art and craftsmanship. But my favorite thing about cigars is how they bring people together.  Smoking a cigar with a friend is a truly rewarding experience. Being a Tobacconist gives me the opportunity to share my passion for cigars with others, whether it’s guiding a newcomer in choosing his/her first cigar or introducing a seasoned smoker to a new favorite!

I’ve been smoking cigars since around 1990. The funny thing about cigars is how you are able to find a small, common thing you have with a person and it can grow into something more, long-lasting. The community is constantly growing and I love the opportunity to open that door for others. To allow them the chance to try something that can become a great experience and hobby. Whether it’s a new person trying cigars for the first time or the experienced smoker who just hasn’t tried the cigars I love. I look forward to sharing my stories with them. A cigar allows the time to spend with someone and to share those stories. To help the people who tell you stories where they may need your advice on a personal level or just an ear to listen. To reach out and lend a hand. I am fortunate enough to be a part of the Tobaccology Family not only for the cigars they carry but the people that come to the lounges. All the people I’ve been able to help as well as all the people that have helped me. Cigars are a way to bring us all together into a brotherhood/sisterhood like none other!!

To understand and appreciate; the passion, the time, the art, and the quality control that cigar makers put into their product…enhances the draw of every stick that I pull from. I truly enjoy describing my passion for cigars to other smokers, whether they’re seasoned vets or novices. I want them to experience the same excitement and energy when you focus on something that excites you as I do.

The cigar lounge is my place of refuge. I come here for peace and comfort. I have literally met and conversed with every walk of life at the lounge. It’s hard to explain so I will sum it up with a quote…
